HANDMADE FURNITURE
Handmade furniture made with honest materials.
I design and build everything out of my shop. I mostly use Japanese tools and processes, because they are the best. My designs follow clean smooth lines and are as sculptural as they are functional. Curves and edges are shaped by hand, machines are used for efficiency when needed. I study trees to better understand the material I am working with, and this helps me design better with the soul of the tree I am working with in mind.
A NEGOTIATION WITH WOOD
The material is the real magic of this art. The life that the tree lived before I shape it is equally as important as what it's being shaped into. Most of the stock I carry is well over 100 years old, and keeping this in mind, the history of the material is incredible. These pieces have seen countless storms, sunsets and winters, both world wars, the invention of the car, women's suffrage, humankind on the moon, and the list goes on. So, keeping that in mind, a degree of respect has to go into the design. I am after all, working with a part of history.
